What is canine myotherapy?

Canine myotherapy is a hands-on therapy that looks at how a dog moves, feels and functions. It combines assessment and soft tissue techniques to support comfort and help identify areas of tension, compensation or restriction.

Do I need veterinary consent?

Yes. Written veterinary consent is required before treatment can begin to ensure your dog's care remains safe and appropriate.

What happens during the first appointment?

The initial consultation is an assessment-only session. We'll discuss your dog's history, observe movement, carry out palpation, and take photographs or videos where appropriate. No treatment takes place during this appointment.

Why is an initial course of three treatments recommended?

A series of treatments allows changes to be monitored over time and helps build a clearer picture of how your dog responds. Sessions are usually spaced 7–10 days apart.

Will my vet be kept informed?

Yes. At the end of the initial treatment course, a report is sent to your veterinary surgeon outlining findings, treatment provided and recommendations for ongoing support.

How often are maintenance sessions needed?

Many dogs benefit from appointments every 4–6 weeks, although this varies depending on age, lifestyle, activity levels and individual circumstances.

Where do treatments take place?

All appointments take place in your home, where your dog is most familiar and relaxed. Treatments are usually carried out at floor level or wherever your dog chooses to settle comfortably.

What do you mean by a choice-led approach?

Dogs are never forced to participate. They are given time to settle, move away if needed, and communicate their preferences throughout the session. Treatment is adapted to the individual dog on the day.

Which dogs do you work with?

I work with dogs of all ages and breeds, including senior dogs, active dogs, and those requiring ongoing maintenance or additional support alongside veterinary care.

How long does an appointment last?

Initial consultations typically last 60–90 minutes, while treatment sessions are usually around 45–60 minutes, depending on the dog's needs and comfort levels.

Do you offer a mobile service?

Yes. I provide mobile canine myotherapy appointments across Sussex, allowing dogs to remain in their own environment and routine.

What should I do before an appointment?

Please ensure your dog has had an opportunity to toilet and has access to a quiet area where they feel comfortable. Fresh water should be available, and any relevant veterinary information should be shared beforehand.

Are you insured and qualified?

Yes. I am an IAAT-registered canine myotherapist, fully insured, DBS checked, canine first aid trained, and committed to ongoing professional development.

What types of walks do you offer?

I offer secure group field walks and solo local walks, depending on your dog's needs, personality and preferences.

Where do the group walks take place?

Group walks take place in a fully enclosed, secure dog field. Transport is provided, allowing dogs to enjoy safe off-lead exercise away from busy roads and distractions.

Can my dog join a group walk straight away?

My groups are kept small and well established, so new dogs are introduced gradually when suitable spaces become available. Please get in touch to register your interest or join the waiting list.

How do you match dogs for group walks?

I carefully consider temperament, play style, confidence levels and energy before introducing dogs to a group to help ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Do you offer solo walks?

Yes. Solo walks are ideal for puppies, senior dogs, nervous dogs, or those who simply prefer one-to-one time and attention.

What happens in hot weather or storms?

Your dog's wellbeing always comes first. Walk times, duration or activities may be adjusted during extreme weather conditions to keep them safe and comfortable.

What should I provide for walks?

A well-fitting harness or collar, lead, and any specific items your dog regularly uses. Fresh water and treats are provided when appropriate.

Can you walk puppies?

Yes, once they are fully vaccinated. Walks are tailored to suit their age, confidence and stage of development.

Do you walk older dogs?

Absolutely. Senior dogs often benefit from slower-paced, shorter walks that allow plenty of time for sniffing and exploring.

Are you insured and DBS checked?

Yes. SafePaws is fully insured, DBS checked, and trained in canine first aid.

What pets do you look after?

I care for dogs, cats and a variety of small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, budgies and other household pets.

What is included in a pet visit?

Visits can include feeding, fresh water, toilet breaks, litter tray cleaning, medication, companionship, playtime and general welfare checks.

Do you offer overnight pet sitting?

Yes. Overnight care takes place in your own home so pets can remain comfortable in familiar surroundings and maintain their usual routines.

Can you care for multiple pets at the same time?

Absolutely. Many households have a mix of dogs, cats and smaller animals, and services can be tailored to suit everyone's needs.

Can medication be given to my pet?

Yes, provided clear instructions are given in advance and your pet is comfortable with the process.

Will I receive updates while I'm away?

Of course. I'm happy to send messages and photographs so you can relax knowing your pets are safe and well cared for.

Do you offer a meet-and-greet?

Yes. Before starting any regular service, we'll arrange a visit to discuss routines, preferences and anything important for your pet's care.

Can you care for indoor cats?

Yes. I understand that many cats prefer their own space and routine, and visits are tailored to each cat's personality and comfort levels.

Do you provide care during holidays?

Where availability allows, yes. Early booking is recommended for school holidays and peak periods.
